Progress on Westwood School crossing but more work still to do
Following our local campaign, it is welcome news that Cambridgeshire County Council yesterday agreed unanimously to approve a motion to prepare funding options for the crossing, having previously rejected undertaking any work until 'a cluster of accidents' had occurred.
As the largest primary school in Cambridgeshire with around 750 pupils, and split across two separate sites with a busy road in between, the lack of road safety measures has been a growing concern to Westwood staff who had reported multiple near misses. Many parents signed my recent petition calling for a pelican or puffin crossing to be installed.
This decision still doesn’t guarantee construction just yet, but with the Chair of Highways seconding the motion, it does give it weight and mark a welcome change of approach. So we will continue to press this case, but the first step of the county council starting work on this scheme is at least now underway.
