The Government waited until the last day in Parliament before summer recess to slip out an announcement that the reorganisation of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s local democracy is being paused. Yet we were not told for how long, why, or what additional information is now being sought.
The process nationally has been characterised by Labour gerrymandering as reorganisations repeatedly appear to favour the submissions made by local Labour Party organisations.
I remain firmly opposed to Fenland being forced into a single unitary authority with Peterborough. We do not want to be saddled with Peterborough’s debt, to have our free local council parking removed, and to pay more in council tax so money can be redirected to Peterborough.
